3 Easy Ways to Retain Hair Moisture

As simple as it is to add moisture into your natural hair care routine, it’s just as easy to lose it. From frizz to dry ends, if your hair is notoriously dry you must do a few extra steps to retain your moisture - and with colder weather just around the corner, it’s all about keeping your locks as hydrated as possible.
Here are three easy ways that you can help retain moisture, but don’t forget to check out our latest blog post including our top tips for moisturized hair.
Care for your hair at night
Did you know that you can lose hair moisture when sleeping? If you haven’t invested in a hair scarf, bonnet, or satin pillowcase you need one! Cotton bedding and pillowcases can draw out moisture from your hair and skin, so your locks become frizzy and dry as you move around. Before you go to bed, making sure your hair is protected will prolong your washdays and retain moisture - just make sure you choose a silk or satin option as this is most gentle on natural hair.
Use protective styling
You don’t always have to wear your hair out, in fact, incorporating protective styles into your routine is great for saving time and locking in moisture. Add a leave-in cream to your hair and a lightweight oil before styling, this will protect your hair from the elements and encourage moisture to penetrate deeper. Braids, twists, and updos look great and when cared for properly can go untouched for a few days so you’re ready to go.
Try the LOC method
The LOC method (leave-in, oil, and cream) is a technique for sealing in your products for better hydration. Oil is often used at the end of a styling routine, however, using it in the middle can increase moisture retention. For those with high porosity hair that struggles to absorb moisture, this method can help your scalp and ends look and feel less brittle.
