5 Self Care Tips

5 Self Care Tips

If you weren’t practicing self care before, 2020 is the time to start. This year has been full of challenging and unprecedented situations. As we battle the global pandemic that is COVID-19, we as a black community fighting for equality and addressing the wider issues of racism, it’s important to recognize when to care for yourself. Self care is about looking after your well-being, making small and purposeful efforts to care for yourself in all senses.

Take a relaxing bath

Have a bath as it’s great for your body and mind. Add in some gorgeous smelling bubble bath, bath salts and even petals if you’re feeling fancy! This is the perfect time to clear your mind and relax your muscles. Baths can improve your sleep quality, anxiety and make your body feel calm.

Try something new with your hair

How do you feel when you look in the mirror? Give yourself some TLC. Instead of doing a quick wash and go make yourself feel good with a hair mask, hot oil treatment or scalp massage - those extra steps will make all the difference.

Pick up an old hobby

In between work, juggling home life and everything else you have to think about during this current climate, you deserve some me-time. Revisiting an old hobby will make you feel good and give you a sense of achievement too. Remember, self-care is something that refuels us, rather than take from us.

Reflect at the end of each day

Reflection exercises can boost your mood, keep you positive and help you recognize the things you should be proud of. Before you go to sleep, write down 3 things that you achieved that day. Over time this can alter the way you feel about yourself and help you recognize your abilities.

Get outdoors

Fresh air can make you feel energized and refreshed physically and mentally. Going for a short walk, a bike ride or doing some gardening is the perfect opportunity to switch off and reconnect with yourself. It’s easy to fall into the same habits when you’re stuck indoors but being outside allows you to fully absorb the beauty that’s around you and truly be in the moment.
